These areas were thoroughfares for families escaping the fires near Batemans Bay and the Southcoast. This left Bermagui and the surronding areas depleted of all supplies.
Some parts of Bermagui and surrounding Caravan Parks where isolated and without power for nearly a week. Many of the residence are elderly and vulnerable.
We raised over $4000 and stocked up the trailer with supplies. As soon as the access reopened we hit the road. We then distributed all the supplies throughout the area.
Quaama is a little Community just outside Cobargo NSW. It did not get the publicity and media coverage of Cobargo but it was absolutely devastated by the bushfire on the 31st December 2019.
The area lost numerous homes and many businesses. Through the local RFS we found out about Quaama's situation. The following day we set up at their local park and cooked for 4hrs. Many of the people we feed that day had lost everything.
For all of the Ironhorse Gentlemen Crew that were there that day, it was one of the most profound experiences of their lives. To be trusted with the stories that were shared was an honour and they will never be forgotten.
Throughout our bushfire relief effort we always maintained that we wanted to support and target those that needed it the most. We also believed everyone that donated deserved a tangible impact for their dollar.
We found an initiative outside Cobargo in a community called Wandella. A group of Tradies and Neighbours were building a home for a Family that had lost everything.
In 10 days the house went from slab poured to lock up stage. With our donation of $2000 the project paid all outstanding bills. We made a difference to a real family that needed it.
